#'s 76 & 75 both had plays on both sides of the ball. We started some younger players. That being said, at crucial times alot of our younger players would be substituted. That is the problem with a 2 platoon system. You may have 22 different starters. But, those aren't necessiarily your 22 most experienced or sometimes even your best players at each position. As far as the size comparison, 81 and especially 77 for 90 Clintwood was HUGE.

Re: High School Football

So why does the philosophy changes only hit here? Why are the kids here the only ones who stop working hard or trying? Its kind of like Russian Roulette. You can win a lot of the time, but eventually its going to catch up to you. We still have good teams here, its just unless you have a team loaded for bear, not just in skill positions, but size, your facing an uphill battle. That's not to say an uphill battle can't be won, just don't count on it all the time. Burton was a really good team, but if they had tried to just run over top of people, would they have went as far as they did, with what they had? No way. They used what they had, and it paid off. PV this last year, they used the Pinkstons, Mitchell, and Lawson's respective skillsets. When they played a team that was pretty physical back with them, they weren't neturalized because their set used their skill and speed. Honestly the game has changed, and as opposed to sticking with a philsophy that fits when you have the right pieces, you have to change to fit what you got. What do you always hear is the key to winning football? Speed. Why is Urlacher considered so good on the defense? He's big, but he also can cover most of the field. Honestly, one of the best things for this area, is more teams pushing the track aspects. A 6'2 225 lb player that runs 4.2 is going to be better to have than a 6'2 225 player that runs a 4.5 most of the time. IMHO, I dont think its the change in philsophy here thats hurt us, I think its exactly the opposite. A big old team like Appy had that was able to run over people here, played WC, who was a big old team but was like 10 times faster. The old saying speed kills didn't become an old saying because it wasn't true
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

#77 was a mental case and was no longer on the team for our playoff game with you guys

#75 was Ford (right?) I only remember him playing D after your starting D Tackel got tossed in the playoff game. Ford was a heck of a pulling guard and really opened the trap play up for Stidum (sorry for butchering the spelling)

both of our guards were more than adequate...that line was just quick as well as fast. You guys had one of the strongest DLs we faced that year. I can remember 77 not playin in the playoffs.

Does anyone really think Appalachia could have beaten William Campbell is they had more heart? Could have Powell Valley came remotley close to Giles if they "wanted" it more? Could any of the teams the LPD man handled in the past really say we won because we wanted it more? That stuff is BS, if your equal talent, the want and desire comes into play, if your team is not as good, your not going to win, I want to play tailback for the Colts next year and believe me I want this more than anything in the world besides playing first base for the Red Sox next season, but no matter how bad I want that I wont be doing it.

Re: High School Football

Equal talent has nothing to do with one team being better than the next. You can have a slew of athletes on a team that can't beat a team of "football players". And yeah, lesser talent does win through wanting it more. If you can remember any of Appy's team in the late 80's early 90's (especially 89 Bath County) you would know this to be true. Appy had great players..not a whole lot of stellar athletes tho.

Yeah I can remember Huff's, Clarks, Mabe's etc. Those teams had great players, period. Thos are pretty good players and atheletes. But ya know, as long as we have heart and get drilled that makes everything ok.

LOL The 89 Appy game over Bath Co was a heck of an upset but honistly if that game had been played on turf Bath wins that game heck I had a coupple of the Appy players on that team tell me that the rain/Mud was the great equilizer and kept BC from using there speed and made the grind it out ball that Appy was known for work that much better.

Pics from that game were even in sports illastrated
